Alanis Covers My Humps

I hate the music of the Black Eyed Peas. But, last night I saw a video of Alanis Morissette covering “My Humps” by the Black Eyed Peas and man, did I love it! Her version features just her voice and piano, no big production, so you can actually understand all the lyrics. It perfectly illustrated the complete stupidity of the song and its lyrics. Hearing her version makes me frustrated that a song like “My Humps” can win the 2006 Grammy for “Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal.”

I will concede that the song has great production value – all pop songs today have great production value, but that doesn’t make the song or performance the “Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal,” it makes it the best performance by producer and studio musicians. Maybe that should be a new Grammy category, “Best Performance By Producer and Studio Musicians.”
